We are witnessing some big transitions
We are currently witnessing some big transitions. For example, back in the day Blockbuster was king. There were several by every neighborhood. And seemingly overnight, they went out of business because of something like Netflix, where they just simply shipped you DVDs and then eventually just streamed you movies and content.
There was no need to go rent a physical item and play it. It just invalidated the entire business model of Blockbuster. And nothing they could do in their stores would have really saved it.
This also seems to be happening with Uber. As RoboTaxi and Waymo come about, it really kind of negates the whole need for a human driver. This will probably happen slower because cars and long trips will probably not turn around and you'll probably still need human drivers for very long trips and all sorts of special edge cases, but these transitions are happening in front of us.
