This is Lex Fridman's podcast studio, where out of a single room in Austin, TX he runs one of the world's largest podcasts
With surprisingly little equipment and some hard work, you can theoretically get more viewership/listenership than major broadcasting companies!
It takes surprisingly little equipment to do this:
Microphones: Lex utilizes the Shure SM7B dynamic microphones, known for their warm and clear sound, making them a popular choice among podcasters.
Audio Interface: To connect his XLR microphones to his recording setup, he employs the Focusrite Scarlett series audio interface, which converts analog signals to digital.
Portable Recorder: For mobile recording sessions, Lex uses the Zoom H4n recorder, a reliable device for capturing high-quality audio on the go.
Mic Preamp: A Cloudlifter CL-1 is included in his setup to provide additional clean gain to the microphones, ensuring optimal audio levels.
Cameras: Lex's video recordings are captured using Sony a6400 mirrorless cameras, which offer excellent image quality and are well-suited for podcasting setups.
Boom Arm: The RODE PSA1 professional studio boom arm is used to position the microphones conveniently and reduce desk noise.
The funny thing is when I moved into my current house, I turned a 13' by 14' spare bedroom into a podcast studio:
How it started:

V2 setup (current):

However I now actually prefer to go into a professional studio to record podcasts!
I found out that having a producer over for hours, a guest over....ended up being wayyyyy too busy, and it would be like 6 hours of hanging out and goofing around.
Whereas when I go to a professional studio I'm in-and-out and they handle everything without a million people coming over to my house.
